It has been said that everyone has seven kinds of intelligences. Your child may be a great reader but a poor math student, a wonderful drawer but clumsy out on the playing filed. Children can even show a wide range of strengths and weaknesses within one area of intelligence. Your child may write very well but have difficulty with spelling or handwriting, read poorly but be a superb storyteller, play an excellent game of basketball but stumble on the dance floor.
Over the next several weeks, I will describe each of the so called 7 intelligences so that you can better understand your child gifts and help him/her develop those gifts into something productive. However, it is important to note that you will need to resist the temptation to categorize your child into one of the 7 intelligence groups as your child is more complex than this. Take what seems to apply and add to this observed strengths and weaknesses in all 7 varieties of intelligence and you will discover your child's personal learning style.

Timberwolves Take Off
Once again another school year begins and the educational journey for our children continues. Each moment, each learning opportunity is like a brick in the building we call a childs life. And like a building, scaffolds are needed to support the structure until it is complete. I believe every parent, teacher, spiritual leader, neighbor, relative and friend has the power to build up or tear down these little lives. If we truly value our children and consider them our most precious resource we must take time to reflect on what we say and do each day that will build our children up. Let's start the year off with a High Five. Then watch as our children Take Off!
